Good morning fellow nz sports fans. What an incredible next few weeks its going to be when the All Whites fight for their place in nz sporting history.
I do believe that they will rise to the task ahead and that the Bahrain team will crumble under the intense passion of both the team and the fans. Simply cant wait.
Ive been away for a while and what I have seen so far is that there is growing passion showing on these message boards since the All Whites dramatic draw against Bahrain in the first leg of this qualifying round. Great to see that true nz football fans are showing their true colours.
Please if you are not passionate about nz football could you please leave this forum. Even the english are not welcome. You do not follow nz football therefore you have no business in here.
Rise to the occasion nz football fans, lets support our All Whites. They have proved me wrong so far.

Just because NZ is not higly ranked in football proves.....that football is global.
Sadly ythe same can NOT be said for league and union!
You know and I know that few, very few, countries take rugby and league seriously. The Wainuiomata League team, if allowed to enter the League WC could come 4th or maybe 3rd. As for union, how many countries take it seriously?
The UK countries, Sth Africa, a few places in France, and now I'm struggling....The canterbury team could come 4th in that farcical tournament as well.

As I said before, I like watching League, but you are forcing me to expose the game as an obscure game. You know and I know that the Wainuiomata League team, if entered in your "League World Cup" would come 4th, maybe even 3rd.
Also, I think you are jealous of all the beautiful women we footballers get.
As for being physical, I have already told you that footballers would leave your lot bawling, if they had to. But Football is a game of skill, not running into people. That's why it is known as "the world game". League is so unknown around the world that nobody cares.

Those teams you mention mostly were made up of Kiwis and Aussies who were not good enough to play for NZ, or Aussie but had Irish, Lebanese etc grandparents, so qualified for those teams.
Tell me how many people turn out forthe Russian League NRL competition? 17? 8?
Just because these teams manage to muster up a team to compete in your farcical "world cup" does not mean that rugby league is a serious sport in those countries.
Anyway, what is the average crowd at the Lebanese, Russian, Irish, etc NRL competition?!

Oh silly me! I always thought I was good at geography! I always thought that NZ was on planet earth, but apparently it isn't according to olek.
As for more people watching league than football, there have been times when the Phoenix have bigger crowds than the Warriors and vice versa. And remember, Akld has a quarter of NZs population. Wellington doesn't. |

Mt Smart??? Do you mean when the Warriors are on a winning streak or a losing streak as the crowd difference is about 10,000!
I quite like league. I think it is far superior to slow boring rugby. But I just have to remind you that your sport realistically is only taken seriously by three countries, which makes your WC more of a farce than the rugby WC. |

That "gum chewing moron from M.U" who is a household name and face around the world, last time I heard, was on over NZ$ 20 million per year. How much do the three brainless NZ rugby coaches get? They hardly ever change things around once the game starts. Fergusson wouldn't get out of bed for their salary.
I know football is fragile here, but at least we have a chance to compete on the world stage unlike the rugby WC ( ha ha I always laugh when that farcical tournament is called a WC ) which we all know is more of a four nation tournament. Did you see the report about rugby in Aussie? |

wharfie; After 1982 the football scenario went into a dive that has only just stopped. If the AW's lose on Nov.14th the nosedive will continue. Same with rugby in Oz; if a team loses enough, the fans don't bother attending but will watch it on tv if it's broadcast. That's what is happening now.
Re your comment about all the countries that take football seriously. Every week the tv news shows us just how serious; the rioting, the coin throwing, the total destruction of grounds property, the absolute idiots some coaches make of themselves on the sideline. Look at that gum chewing moron from M.U.; looks like a cow chewing grass. Sure is serious. |

Even in Aussie, rugby is on a downward slide. Attendances down by over 30%. See yesterdays NZ Herald. AFL, and League ( both sports that nobody could call 'international' ) are way ahead. Look at all the empty seats in the Air NZ Cup games here in NZ. More empty seats than occupied.
Football is global. Look at all the countries that take football seriously and then look at the few countries that take rugby and League seriously.
Watching the abs thrash Italy etc by massive scores is zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz z boring. |
