Interesting fact:- The entire population of New Zealand represents approximately 0.3% of the estimated global audience for the Chelsea vs Manchester United game later this week.
Gives perspective to the 'Little Island Mentality' of some people, especially those middle aged, anglosaxon rugger blokes............. |

ROME, May 18 (Reuters) - Two Italian police officers were injured during clashes with fans before a soccer match in Parma on Sunday, local media reported.
A 28-year-old policeman suffered multiple abdominal injuries and was admitted to a local hospital. Italy's ANSA news agency later said his condition was not as serious as initially feared and that he was expected to recover within around three weeks.
The other officer was injured by rocks hurled at him by fans during clashes outside the stadium, it said.
Inter Milan won the match 2-0 in Parma to retain their Serie A league title. Defeat meant Parma were relegated to the second tier of Italian soccer.
Italy is trying to crack down on a serious soccer violence problem at its club matches.
A Lazio fan was shot dead by police in November after a scuffle at a motorway rest stop and a policeman was killed in riots outside a match in Catania last year.
The league was suspended for a period after the death in Catania and new measures were brought in to try to clamp down on hoolig *** m. (Writing by Phil Stewart; editing by Keith Weir)

poor johny.....
so sad that he had to go study very hard in the nameof football....
played by all races and religions...no wonder the world is falling apart and petrol is rising:):):):)
lets just say soccer is a sport where all races and religions are able to exhibit violence and hatred amongst each other - to a certain point there is lawlessness and chaos amongst the public and every effort to minimise the impact is met with either flying chairs, half empty bottles, knifes etc etc....
this is a touchy subject which you johny fail to talk about as it hurts deep inside that you avoid it at all costs:):):) lol
now johny dont be bias - we can visit this forum as any other law abiding citizen is permitted - mainly because we need to boost the posts as it is looking like a forum with no dignity therefore adding some firepower to it (not riot police firepower i might add)
anyway - when is the all whites next game by the way??? oh thats right...who cares:):):)
looking forward to the super super 14 semi finals... i know you are wharfie and johny:):) |

Just been reading a report that has studied players/supporters for different sports around the world.
It appears that soccer is played/supported by men/women of all ages and all races and cultures with no real bias re religion or politics. One interesting fact was that there are more females playing soccer worldwide than there are male/female rugby players AND supporters. Makes you think...
Oh yes, what is the demograph for rugby? It is sad but it is also true that the majority of the rugby playing/supporting population is white, middle aged and male with a strong bias towards conservative politics. So rugby truly is the people's sport (If you are a white, conservative, middle aged bloke!!!!!).
The origins of rugby are soccer. Boys who did not possess the necessary skills to play with the ball at their feet had to pick it up. Private schools in the UK started to play the game and then Grammar schools joined in. Why? Not because it was the sport for all, rather to develop an elitist sport that could run parallel with the British class system.
This is a soccer messageboard. Why do so many rugby supporters continue to visit? I can only suggest that the rugby supporters return to their own safe forum (ie white, middle aged males only) and allow the soccer supporters to discuss their chosen game without the continued vitriol from the disgruntled pack.
There are sites for all to enjoy their chosen sports. Why criticise, insult and annoy the supporters of other games. The rugby fans who visit the soccer sites should be ashamed of their behaviour. Have dignity, maturity and decency and make your comments on your own sites with the other middle aged, white blokes who are obsessed with trying to appear superior to others.
Walk away while you can still pretend to have some dignity......... |

daquack; look at the 'minnows' that have reached a Semi or Final but lost by only the odd goal; Turkey, South Korea, Holland, Hungary, Poland, etc. Look how Cameroun and North Korea and Costa Rica and Colombia and USA and Australia and a host of nations have done so well and just missed out by a goal to the eventual winners or finalists.
Then look at the boring predictability of rugby and you will see how football is the world game, but rugby is NOT.
The green eyed monster! Rugby will NEVER EVER have the fan base that football has. Sorry, but I speak the truth.
Rugby is only world famous .....in NZ. |

To win the football World Cup ( the only true 'World Cup' ), due to the world popularity of the game, you must be a very good and lucky team.
To win the rugby tournament that has the ridiculous name of 'world cup', it is almost meaningless to 90% of the worlds population!
I don't know for sure, but I thought the Aussie rugby team play in CCC shirts??? |
