Any other team could attack if they want, but they won't if the yellow jersey has a problem. It is an unwritten rule of sportsmanship that if the yellow jersey has a mechanical problem or stops for a call of nature, then the peleton won't attack as it is bad sportsmanship.
I'd argue that the best riders do win the tour. You have to prove yourself to be the strongest to be team leader and one of the strongest teams normally wins.
The only bet I'd ever put on cycling was a stage set up for Cavendish and he'd be the only one that I'd put money on. He is an almost unbeatable machine and THR would almost always pull in a breakaway on a stage perfect for him. |

| Didnt see it but no one in the first breakaway group was probably a threat. The riders in front of peleton were probably team mates of the yellow jersey holder. Best rider never wins the tour, but person in best team does |

| Refund all bets.Did anyone else watch this stage .When then first group broke away the gap came back to 8 seconds and then the yellow jersey rider had a problem and their team at the front didn't allow anyone to chase the bunch untill he was back some 5 mins later. |
