| And just for those who think sportpeople are obliged to it your all totally wrong....Any sportsperson is given the choice to stand and perform or not...if they do or dont its not a big deal the only big deal is, is that how that sportsperson feels once they have done what they believe is right for their country...not for the maori or pakeha their COUNTRY their TEAM this is what makes NZ so unique.....I dont see the Island people complaining about there families performing the haka, or indian families or scots families and so on and so on...PEOPLE WAKE UP this is reality so come back to earth and face it......... |

oh and another reason why our people cannot speak in their
tongue its because everytime they spoke in school years back they were hit and even today.....Must we pay to learn a language that is rightfully ours.....pffff you ignorant and insolence fools....learn before you open your mouth you dont exactly hear us complaining about the english language, or the taxes you people created, firearms you created and placed in the hands of our youth, bills bills bills and so many more hell I dont hear the AB's complaining for crying out loud there is no pleasing you people.....and as for going back to the days of living as we were I believe we would have survived much longer....Your all just jealous because we are unique....so look in the mirror and laugh at yourselve's |

I am sick of the haka, as I am sick of the national anthem being sung in Maori and then English, the haka is a Maori challenge of war, and most of the other teams that they are playing in rugby just laugh at it and I have seen opposing teams get right in the faces of the ABs, it is the same as at sporting events it has become fashionable to sing the national anthem in Maori before English, just as well I have a mute button on the remote, I am not a Maori basher but how many of the Maori can even speak a word in their own tongue, not many of them from what I have seen and heard, yes I have a lot of Maori friends and some can but most can't even speak a word of Maori |

| Let's face it...the haka is performed for the opening of an envelope...everything is hijacked by it...which to me lessens it power for those moments when it is absolutely appropriate - was at a funeral once and students performed the haka for a teacher who had passes away - most moving moment ...in some sport environments it is fantastic....AB's obviously. But at yachting and such...give it away. |

Yes, especially when the Olympics was on, it became a bit too much.
The Haka once had a prestigious thing about it when the All Blacks were the only sporting group who used it before 'going to war' on the rugby pitch & it had the desired effect on the opposition. Nowadays it is used almost at the drop of a hat - I've seen it now at hockey, swimming, rowing... and even weddings??!!! What kind of war is a wedding? I was born in Sydney but have live here for more years than not & have a Kiwi father who was always into the rugby & got terribly excited by the haka before any rugby games, especially against Australia... I can also tell you for a fact that most Aussies Loathe John Williamson & his version of Waltzing Matilda, so you aren't alone in hating that. We actually enjoyed the Haka for a while & wished we had something as fierce & inspiring of our own.
So I think yes, i am sick of the haka being abused... and would like to see it used as it was originally - for the major Rugby tests. |
