I thought rugby was invented by the english, but maybe I'm wrong. The maoris invented it ???
I am proud of NZ but cannot see what the haka has to do with NZ anymore than a highland jig or wearing clogs has.
Most of the population is NOT maori so why does a primitive maori dance represent NZ???? |

The haka is a dance that is an embarrassment to intelligent humans.
All those people who disagree are unintelligent humans. That's easy to see.
By implying that violet is a hick because he/she dislikes the haka is clutching at straws.

| i agree the haka is unique and we should be proud of it. it is sad that we cheapen it by using it continously for every sporting event, every welcoming event. other nationalities copy it often as a joke or for a laugh. it is unique, it is ours and we should be proud of it. we do thrash it though, and WE cheapen it. |

Even though my taxes have paid for thousands of brainwashings in NZ schools, I think the haka and all associated with it is primitive and boring and embarrasing.
Only kiwis think the world cares about hakas. Most people dismiss it with the same shoulder shrug as they do when they hear a PNG war chant or some African tribal mumbo jumbo dancing. Yawn. "Yeah.........next.."

| When I watch the AB's do the Haka before a match its like its part of the preparation for the game, it demonstrates team bonding, mana and a sense of 'Kiwis unite' it is our heritage and an important and longstanding tradition. I love to watch victorious kiwi athletes performing the haka it shows national pride and its telling the rest of the world 'hey we're the best - if you want to challenge --- bring it on'. In my opinion if any athlete (AB particularly) should happen to be offended by it or worse still refuse to perform it they are not fit to represent this country and should be dropped faster than a hot potatoe. |
