Dancing like a gorilla trying to prove your manhood is not something intelligent people do. There are 200,000 kiwis in London and only a small minority turn out to watch the all blacks and even less to dance around doing the haka,

Re:Sick of the Haka? Reply to this message
The haka has become more our national anthem than God Defend NZ in my opinion.

I have done the haka a couple of times - once at a rugby club in Britain because they asked me to, and once before a soccer match I was playing in (which was an English team and they all loved it). I do not a bad job of it, if I say so myself.

What is embarassing is seeing kiwis try to do it without a clue. I've seen them start out all macho slapping their thighs and then a strange look comes over their face and you can see them thinking "oh **** , what's the next bit".

as for the bloke going on about locals in a London pub taking the piss, would these be the same type of Brits that vote for the BNP?
I can assure you that there's no better sight in London than the mass haka outside Westminster at the end of the circle line tour every Waitangi Day (when there's enough room to do it properly). Makes you proud to be kiwi, and all the tourists/locals passing by love it.

I'm a "whitey" btw.

PS don't you sad bitter little people have anything better to do than try and destroy the very essence of NZ with your incessant whining about everything? Grow a set, get over yourselves, and start living your life and enjoying the huge priviledge you've given by been born in our fantastic country. Travel the world a bit and you might see that we ain't got it too bad at all.

Re:Sick of the Haka? Reply to this message
Yes, Iam sick and tired of the Haka. When I was in standard two in primary school in 1947 my teacher tried to teach us boys the Haka. After the second stomp I thought this is just nonsense and refused to participate. I would have done anything for this teacher as this man was the best and kindest teacher I had had to date and as it turned out the best teacher I ever had in my time at school. It originated when Te Rauparaha was trapped by his enemies near Tokaanu and hid in a hole in the ground with a woman squatting over it to conceal him. Maori ladies did not wear panties those times. To get an interpretation of the maori words to this childish Haka then go to the Encyclopaedia of N.Z. However, if I get feedback from this I could post the full history of this event as I have it on disk somewhere.

GET USE TO IT THE HAKA IS HERE TO STAY.
Show some passion and enjoy it.
Do we find the australians singing waltzing matilda stupid and hilarious?
Yes.
Will they keep singing it.
Yes.
Why?
They show pride in everything they do for there country we need to do the same.
We need to throw this rediculous argument out the window STAND TALL TOGETHER accept the HAKA for what it is and move on.

Well said Phe Jay,I like your styles.I know live in Australia and finded very little opposition to the haka over here it would seem most of the criticism is unfortunately from home. Most Australians respect it and find it very entertaining and would think it week and stupid for us to get rid of it.cheers Trev

You are a racist hood by the look of your comments. If that's the case then don't expect others of a similar fold to respect you. Understand this; you have the potential to make a huge positive difference. It's all a mind set. To change for good is simply a decision away. Rugby is great and so is Ice hockey. As for the haka...tumeke! Kia ora.

Re:Sick of the Haka? Reply to this message
People just get sick and tired of being sick and tired. Ever bothered to learn how to edify others and be positively encouraging. Try it...you'll be amazed. It is more beneficial to make constructive criticisms about a subject but not attack and abuse a person. As for the haka? It is now an accepted signature of the All Blacks that adds to the competitive atmosphere. And I take no issue with it. As for other sports...they have their place and signature…even if it‘s the big hype up in the changing rooms or the huddle on the field. Hey, that's great. As long as a sport is not adversely cruel and inhumane to those who participate, that's fine. To make comparisons about which is the best sport? That depends on the sport discipline we follow and whose value system is personally applied. I enjoy many sporting disciplines. E.g. Rugby League, Rugby, Extreme sports, V8 Racing, boxing and so on. Have fun and enjoy your sport. A wise old patriarch once said to me, “Men don’t ridicule others only males do that”. Kia ora.
