| I'm not sure what Messam has to do to get a jersey. He does most of the sh!t work for Waikato and still reads the game well enough to create havoc with the ball in hand. Hosea Gear is a finishing machine. he doesn't even need space, creates his own with power, acceleration & footwork. Masaga is awesome on attack but needs tow work on his 'aerial skills' read 'catching the high ball'. |

must seem like i'm totaly one eyed waikato some times, I do follow many other players and I do watch most games, only missed a couple of hilanders games this year.
Gear is also looking very good, but there are a lot of wingers who are almost there. joe will be back, Zac could be a superstar, Masanga is class and maybe getting better and better.
I kind of worry a little about our fullback stocks, Mc Donald is not going to be around for ever, I kind of get the feeling he will move within the year but you never know. Mils is still up there with the best in the world in 15 but it's good to have someone just as good there. I thought Jane would grow into that role but he has not really come on the last couple of years. |

cant wait for Masanga to get in there the guy is a lightning rod. Just takes the smallest gap to set him free. And he's so fast he can cover a lot of ground on defence. No dis respect to Wulf but I think masanga should be there.
That is the only spot in the current squad that I would change. But with McCaw out I would have chosen Messam over Masoe.
Messam has been fantastic For the Maori he does a lot of work and pulls of some big plays/turnovers - and he's a guy for the future, where is Masoe going to be next year? Not in NZ that's for sure. |

| Getting back to the question. I think the NZRFU itself has cheapened the All Black jersey by not now having a Jnr All Blacks, or Under 21 rep team, that was used to prepare players for the ultimate step up. Now we see players that may possibly deserve that coveted jersy given one. Even this posting has listed a lot of players that are not really definates; players that could show just how good they are with a step up into a Jnr AB squad. Australia seems to have stuck to the right tier because they have an A team which is the equivalent of our now disposed of Jnr team. Why is the NZRFU doing this; why has it got rid of the rep teams in between the S14 and the All Blacks. I know there is the excellent Under 20's team but this is a team that ranks before Air New Zealand rugby, not after S14 level. And next year even the Air NZ format is going to be chopped up into pieces. Where is the future in NZ rugby if the RNZFU keeps eliminating rep teams and cutting grassroots/provincial formats like it is doing right now. You are all dropping names in the hat [me too] but you must remember that the AB jersey is the holy grail of our rugby and shouldn't be handed out willy nilly like it has been over the pasr 2-3 years. |

| I'm with you on the Hosea Gear front. He's a menace. I think they need more mongrel in the team to be honest. Piri is unlucky, and I think since he was dropped last year, he hasn't stepped up, but chuck him in the black again and I bet he'll be cooking with gas once more! |

I've always thought that Hosea Gear really deserves a black jersey.
I think they lack that in the current All Black squad.
He's a beast when it comes to running down the side line. Twice now I've watched him bump/fend off four players to score/set up a try.
Once in the Hurricanes against Stormers and just the other week for The New Zealand Maoris against Tonga
He's got that.. Jonah Lomu factor! |
