To answer a fellow writer's question. NZ were behind with wins and series vs South Africa from the beginning of their rivalry until all the way to 1997. Now that we are ahead for the last 12 years out of 82 years of rivalry.
It's great that we are leading them now, but I remember when I was young in the 70's that the Springboks were like they are now, almost unbeatable.
I believe we have the means to beat them, we just need more firepower in the forwards, just like the old days. |

| the fact is that had we played any other team we would have won the game. simply because there is no other team who currently have a kicker who can kick goals from inside their own half (effortlessly i might add). the guy would have been kicking them over from his own 22 line at altitude. hope they drug tested him after the game |

| Justin, when did SA dominate last century. The ABs have a much better record that SA. Things need to be put in perspective, SA have had one good year. Remember how we thrashed them last year (19 - 0) in SA and they were lucky to get 0. |

Yeah, I was at the game and it was awesome!
We almost got the win in the end, but with those Springboks now back to their dominance of the previous century, it was very reminiscent of era's gone by.
I agree that is was rugby at its best and we can see now why these 2 rugby giants are the world historic best.
Its like Brazil vs Argentina in soccer. All Blacks are like Argentina and South Africa are like Brazil.
Anyway, we better get new coaches, because Henry does not know how to overcome those Boks at the moment. |

| While it was hard to watch you have to admit that lasts night spectacle was awesome. We saw some good old fashioned rugby played how it should be and how it used to be. Finally the top two teams are on a par again, unfortunately for us Sth Africa won. Watching them play the first 40 reminded me of watching Sth African teams of old, ie 50s- 60s- 70s etc and then seeing the ABs throw everything back at them in the second 40 showed me just how good, ferocious and dangerous the ABs are, if only we had done it for 80 minutes! In the end it could have gone either way. Sth Africa deserve their mantle as Number 1 but personally I think we saw a glimpse of just what we are capable of and even the World Champs struggled to put a lid on it. Rugby is back on cloud nine if this kind of rugby is going to be the norm. Finally I look forward to actually watching some running, rucking, mauling sport as it should be played. Hows that rolling maul from Sth Africe? reminds you of the ABs of old and the 60 mtre feild goal...is there anything these guys cant do. Take your hats off NZ because we are being shown the wat forward and as usual we will adapt and come back stronger and rugby will once more be a game to watch |
