| Precedent? Get Real. Don't afirm then contradict yourself. This tournament is being exposed for what it really is. Of all the competitions we've seen this has bore a lot of upsets but also indicate what is happening in Rugby as a professional sport (a good thing). Things are being dictated by money and those in control and if they weren't such a huge influence perhaps players that were genuinely reliable and did not figure as prominently in marketing the game perhaps then we may have seen outcomes that would have reflected the odds given by the betting agencies. However this is not the case and if England win then it only makes it apparent what a blip this Tournament is on the radar and it should never be the end all and be all for New Zealand going forward. It should remain what it is a showpiece and something to generate and grow interest in the game. When England won their cup it was like no-one in the world could touch them. Well they soon came crashing down to earth soon enough didn't they. Give me good results for 4 years and a miss at the world cup as oppossed to 4 years of crap and a world cup win that is only going to see you being beateb like little biatches and then at the end of it going well we got the be-jesus kisked out of us but we're still the worl dchampions...whatever. |

| Kiwis dont be such sore loosers, crying like girls after your exit from the world cup...get over it, in 4 years you'll have another chance to be crowned as well champions. Who are the best ? Wait and see...there is still a week to go. |

All this talk about how over-rated the RWC is has just become alot truer tonight.
Of-course, supporter's whose teams are no longer in contention will say that, especially All Black supporters given their curse of not securing the thing. But lets look at one glaring fact.
England are through to the final. Not only do they have the chance to become the very first team to defend the cup, but they can, no matter what, claim to be at least the second best team on the planet right now.
After the last four years the "World Champions" have given us? Come on. They gleaned the record for the worst performing World Champs in history.
1. Upsets are the nature of knockout sport.
2. The format of this particular tournament is flawed when the worse performing teir one nation for 4 years SOLID makes the final. We're talking tournament to tournament here.
Jeremy Guscot said it perfectly after the Aus game - "Where did that come from?"
I guess it boils down to what you value as a benchmark personally. And as time goes on, this cup is becoming less and less valued (to me and many others) as it becomes a one hit wonder show and "World Champions" becomes a label rather than an indication.
I'm not saying any pro wouldn't love to have that cup in the cabinet, but is the value the same when you performed so dismally in the years leading up to it?
Imagine:
1. The All Blacks won 88% of their games over th last 4 years.
2. England won what, 35% in that same period but won the World Cup.
You give those stats to someone who has never watched rugby before - what will they say?
Kudos to England for their win. Go Argintina. They are the most deserving and consistent team in this comp. Followed closley by SA.
P.S. Not taking anything away from the English team at the tournament. They played magnificently tonight, and did so against Aus too. But I still think it's a dangerous precident for this tournament should they win the final. |

| just get over it. i think the all blacks are still not the best. even thou they've got such a good winning record. henry and his coaching staff have told us that it doesn't matter. we are only preparing for the world cup which is our number one goal and we havnt succeeded in it, thats what we need to win to be number one. Even thou we have the best winning record for the past 4 years under henry we havnt won the main goal the all blacks have tried to achieve in the 4 years. |

bro thats what i been saying for years the World cup is just a knockout tournament and is overrated, the AllBlacks are always ranked no.1 because of their awesome consistency of beating any team that wins the tournament and stamping their authority inbetween the cups. They put way too much pressure on them selves and us as the public and the media absolutely swamp them with pressure.
Its safe to say now that cry baby Chabal and the French are now THE CHOKERS OF 6WCUPS |

| SO if England win despite their ranking they will be the best team in the world am I right? Whatever. They haven't played the All Blacks and all i need to hear now is that because they beat France they Beat all the teams that FRance beat in the tournament ha ha. Anyone including skinstadt who think that this defines the beat team in the world is dreaming. For one I would rather have a top ranked team for four years who lose one game in a knockout tournament than be like this English team who have given their supporters nothing but crap for four years and a good tournament. I'm sticking with Abs on those grounds. The cup will come again but As long as we win everything in between is more important to me as a fan. |

| I just wanted to pose a question and it is totally hypothetical. If NZ did not play an international match or participate in S14 between now and the next cup and and instead just had "IN-HOUSE" internationals, AB's, JNR AB's & the MAORI, when we finally did meet an internation team come world cup time....who do you think would have the advantage?? |

Michael - I do believe it is about winning tournaments - building towards the tournament is simply that = the end justifies the means.
If it was a straight league with the 8 best teams - I think you would see the same couple of teams taking it out and NZ definately topping that on more occassions just as the ABs do in the 3nations = this wouldn't help rugby becoming a truely global game. - The beauty of the cup is - there are a few more suprises and upsets - unfortunately we were on the wrong end of it last week - but it has done wonders for the tournament and I am sure these upsets will help the game globally too.
In terms of holding the cup or a league format more often - In my opinion, it would devalue the World Cup. I love the Tri-nations as the games are extremely tight - but I don't think anybody felt the same emotion losing a Tri-nations competition as they did last week. Because the tri-nations is every year and as George has pointed out the world cup is every 4.
The one thing I would like to change is to make a global season - therefore there wouldn't be a club v country thing in the North and touring would be more worthwhile.
I have never looked at blogs before this WC but the reason I did was the importance the cup holds for me and by the look of how many people are writing their views - it must mean a lot to them too. |

we may not be the so called winners of this tournament but to the title winners ,heres why THE ALLBLACKS ARE THE MOST POTENT RUGBY FORCE FROM 1903-2007 STATS SPEAK FOR IT SELF.
SINCE 1903-2007
PLAYED 429 WON 318 DRAWN 17 LOST 94 74.3% STRIKE RATE
SINCE THE GAME HAS BECOME PROFESSIONAL THE ALLBLACKS HAVE A 80.6% STRIKE RATE.
The world Cup is so overrated these statistic are the meanest out of any rugby team and other top sports teams in this world so all you people that dnt rate us DO YOUR HOMEWORK AND GET A LIFE!!! |

The rankings are just something to write about - winning tournaments are what it is all about.
========================= =================
If you believe this alistair then u must surely believe that the tournaments must be held on a more regualar basis else risking detriment to the game for 3 1/2 years between cups.
Or if the rankings are just rankings, then what do you think about the idea of making this an actual "league" to give the rankings "some" purpose? |
