I disagree with this saying.............
Yes, All Black is out of the World Cup.... Yes, there was an incident in England. But things happen and we all cant win everything.... All Blacks has outdone themselves the last three years and I praise them for that, and also..... they have come long enough...
Yes I am gutted that they get to the Finals or the semis.... But I still support All Blacks all the way.... |

FROM THE IRB.
The IRB World Rankings are calculated using a 'Points Exchange' system, in which sides take points off each other based on the match result. Whatever one side gains, the other loses.
The exchanges are based on the match result, the relative strength of each team, and the margin of victory, and there is an allowance for home advantage.
Points exchanges are doubled during the World Cup Finals to recognise the unique importance of this event, but all other full international matches are treated the same, to be as fair as possible to countries playing a different mix of friendly and competitive matches across the world.
Any match that is not a full international between two member countries does not count at all.
All member countries have a rating, typically between 0 and 100. The top side in the world will normally have a rating above 90.
The top 10 World Rankings are:
1(1) NEW ZEALAND 89.63
2(5) FRANCE 88.38
3(3) SOUTH AFRICA 86.44
4(4) ARGENTINA 86.04
5(2) AUSTRALIA 84.21
6(6) ENGLAND 83.63
7(7) IRELAND 78.66
8(8) SCOTLAND 76.83
9(9) FIJI 75.82
10(10) WALES 74.08
This includes all the games played at the World Cup and could change after the finals.
The World Cup is a competition... It does not denote WHO is the worlds best just who are the world cup champions. As you can see, France have moved up 3 places and Australia have dropped 3 places because of thier preformances in the World Cup.
Perhaps if the AB's had won the World Cup, they then could have been called the worlds best because they were cup holders and the highest ranking. As it is, no matter who wins the Cup, New Zealand will be ranked #1 and the winners the Cup holders... |

| As a Kiwi and a fervent All Black fan I have to say that we are the best team in the world, but the greatest underachievers in the World Cup (save for 1987). Stripping any team in the World Cup of their accolades for winning the tournament is fruitless...in a tournament like that you won't play every team regardless of who you 'consider' to be better, but it's still the World Cup and the winners are the World Champions (as painful as it may be sometimes!). This attitude does make us look like sore losers. If we win all is good, if we lose the tournament is a waste of time. Believe me, that does not mean that I would be happy if England won the World Cup again (I am actually backing Los Pumas now!) and of course I still think that Wayne Barnes did a piss poor job, but that's life man, sometimes you win sometimes you lose. I think that anybody who claims that the All Blacks are now not the best team in the world because they don't do well in the World Cup is not a true student of the game of rugby. |

| I agree with Putionz. No team should be granted full bragging rights and proclaim themselves world champs unless given the chance to play against all seven of the other teams in the second round quarters. As I have pointed out recently, if the English manage to retain the 'Holy Grail', in doing so they lost a game in their quest for fame and glory. Argentina or South Africa will come in second; not fair according to my reckoning especially on South Africa. New Zealand and Australia lost only one game and bowed out in the quarters. Nothing against England; they have done remarkably well considering they were ranked outsiders leading up to and at the beginning of the tournament. But similarly to the preliminary rounds, all teams should be up against each other before determining who should progess to the next round. Some will contend this view as it will extend and prolong the tournament which is a fair comment. Well ok, lets not match the big guys against the nations still developing the code in the round robin series but instead form two competitions within the competition similar to the seven aside game. Time for a major re-structuring of the RWC comp'.....fair enough comment? |

| Biotex,I agree with you partially.The team that wins the world cup are the best at that tournament,but generally speaking the IRB rankings give a better indication of which team is the best.Whoever wins the cup will be known as world champions,but they might not necessarily be the best team.I would like to see field goals reduced to one point to stop all these boring kick a thons,and skippers be allowed to ask ref for video assistance if they feel passes,foul play or anything else hasnt been picked up.The AB's are still the team everyone wants to beat,so i guess in that case they are the best,but I'm just a proud AB's supporter who loves my team win,lose or draw.. |

hey bro there are some kiwis that backed the English like myself today and in the Quarters ,we used to the boys not living up to these tournaments dnt judge us like that mate.
i played rugby against some english rep teams and let me tell you,we are much alike on the feild its absolute hatred and then off the feild you couldnt have a beer with a better person,always alot to say and never short of humor just like us . |

i peronaly think all blacks are the most up looked up , the best rugby team out there we all know that , despite there loss to france in 'a' touranment on the day, which had to be in the world cup . that doent mean any thing.

i also find it weird that people from europe, the uk, south africa, and australia come onto a "new zealand" website to comment about this shit, i mean how did you even find this site? also how do you "supposedly" english and other supporters know so much about our coaches and shit, seems like your either obsessed with new zealand, or maybe just our rugby team, or you are infact kiwi's pretending to be english which would be strange...
Face the facts that nz has and will always be the best rugby side in the world, the cup is just a trophy saying you won a tournament, there is no difference between us losing to france in the quarterfinal to us losing to aussie in the tri-nations this year, we lost "one" test then and everyone still called us the best side, so whats the difference now... well there is one.. the referee was a whole lot worse and made a hell of a lot of mistakes against nz of course.. |

the only way to find out the best team in the world would be to get all the teams into a super 14 type format, where everyone plays each other, and who ever ends out on top is obviously the "best" team, no excuses. There would be no semi final or final because everyone has already played each other.

| i am english and was as shocked as any body when the AB s got beat.my 7 year old son was very upset.he is a big AB s fan.at least he can watch a team in the final who are no where as good as the aB s but who have shown more passion to win than the ab s,and no i an not knocking NZ i would not be hear else..GO THE POMS |

| hope you're enjoying your stay in New Zealand. When do you leave? Jokes. Well my learned friend it is quite simple we would have loved to have won a world cup as it's been a long time between drinks. But the reality is for us and many of the fans we're obssessed with the one thing that has not been in our trophy cabinet for five tournaments. Our expectatiuon is immense as The All Blacks are number one in the world and I guess we feel that more than anyone else we should have the better odds of going all the way but the reality has been quite different. Through all of the discussion and name-calling we have as a group weaned some insight not only from the anti Henry/Abs section of the discussion but what we have seen unfurl in the tournament which has allowed us to bounce our views and opinio nof each other. One of the things i've come to realise is from observing discussions is this: RWC tournament form does not account for much except the odds. A number one ranking does not equal a world cup. A world cup winner does not equal the best team in the world. you obvioulsy need a hug because you seem a little upset. We're dealing and I think the outcomes of the tournament will vindicate Henry and the boys. RElaity may still prevail whe the reigning super 14 champion deals to a six nations also ran. But you never know heh heh |
