Cheers for that - I think I will get my daughter to look into some cards similar to that then when she gets to France. She is 15 and on a 4 week exchange in Montpellier south of france.

Hi bronross
Dunno how the kiwi cards work but here in canada you get them for $10, Dail a number on that card , enter the pin on your card and then dail your destination , it cost me one cent a minute , yep one cent to call NZ from canada using that card , usually get 500 minutes calling time on each card , the type of card I use is a " Vox Global " , I can only imagine tho in NZ that your per minute cost would be alot more , hence why I now live in Canada

Re:Kia Ora Phone cards Reply to this message
That's 30 NZ cents per min I mean from landline to landline. Other charges are shown on the website.

Go to this link and it will give you the prices. http://www.telecom.co.nz/content/0,8748,101014-107 3,00.html I was only paying 30 cents per min to ring from Canada to NZ which I thought was very reasonable.

You can use Yabba cards from overseas. I took one to Canada last year. It was really good. Had to deal up 100 numbers to phone from the landline in Canada to the home phone in NZ but it worked a treat and was really cheap.

Re:Kia Ora Phone cards Reply to this message
You can use them on you're cellphone and payphone.
There's two numbers you can call, one is the local area number which you will find on the card and another is the 0800 number.
The 0800 number charges you 50c then the rate per min of whichever country you wanna call.
Calls to cellphones are 49c per min.

There's two numbers you can ring.

One is a local number to you're area and the other is an 0800 number.
The 0800 number charges you 50c for the service and after that it's the rate per min for the country you're trying to ring.

You can use them on you're cellphone but that's when you're required to ring the 0800 number.
Personally, it's far cheaper to ring the local area number from you're landline.

Re:Kia Ora Phone cards Reply to this message
Try this link http://www.kiaoracard.co.nz/ - it should tell you all about it. I think it is like a Yabba card. You buy a pre-paid phone card (Yabba, Kia Oara or whatever)and then you dial up a very long number on a phone (like a pin number which appears on the card you bought) followed by the number that you want to call. Then it chips away at the balance as you talk. Much cheaper than making toll calls from your landline.
