I came back through Auckland one year and before I had even got my bags off the machine, customs had already made a b line for me. Searched every bag, found cocaine residue in my wallet of course because in the uk if you take money from a hole in the wall every note has some residue on it. So little Hitler thought I was the catch of the day. I was quick to point out that NZ has more coast line than the United States of America so if I was going to bring drugs into NZ why would I come through Auckland airport... I mean how many tugs does NZ have patroling NZ waters? You would have to be a real dumb a7se to bring drugs through any airport. In the UK they have sniffer dogs at Waterloo Station so if you are stupid enough you will get busted. Point is if anyone wants to take drugs into NZ do it by sea because lets face it, you are not going to be caught.

Of the ten Int. flights I have made out of Auckland over the years I have only ever had my luggage checked once. This was in 2002 and the search happened before I reached the Air NZ check in counter. I was pulled aside in a random check and once cleared I was then permitted to go through the VIP express check in lane. I also had 'security check' tape wound around my cases so it was home free all the way to my motel room at my destination point in the U.S. U.S. Customs didn't ask a single Q when they saw that tape.

We did a 3 mth trip last year, found Frankfurt airport to be the worst, no probs at Heathrow. But ohhh, how lovely it was to arrive back to NZ and have a Customs lady say "Welcome home".

I went to the UK and Europe recently and actually had no problems at all coming back into NZ, the trouble I had was getting out of the UK thru Heathrow. Found the whole experience from arriving at the airport to actually getting onto the aircraft a nightmare. The whole experience has actually put us off travelling there again.

when returning from the USA back to OZ, i had to go thru a custom search. due to the facts that being in the USA, everything you touch has cocane resedue on it. more so their money. and the stuff sticks to you, and of course the customs dogs sniff it on you. they know this is a problem. but what do you do, just one of those things. now i don't bother with the USA at all. returning to NZ after 25yrs o/s. i found customs at Auckland airport were very good to us, very quick service. i all so had a 12mth child with me, which got you thru customs easier.

A couple of months ago on my return from overseas, selected by customs to undergo a baggage search, for the sole reason of the destination I had been to! This was a destination that our so called Government advises people not to travel to! Yes there are problems there but hey, so there are in our own backyard! But why a full search, I was the only passenger on the plane subjected to that, yet on that plane were passengers who during the flight gave all visual indication of being high, and were returning from places with high probablity of drugs etc! Have others had this same experience, and what right do customs have to ask personal information? - they think that they are gods - go through your stuff and just make a complete mess of everything, and not even an appology when as initially told, they find nothing. I was even threatened that they would use a chemical snifer in order to detect whether my case had been used for the transport of drugs or explosives on a prior occassion!
