I absolutely agree that New Zealand is just such a geographically beautiful country. I have been overseas several times but when I return I am overawed by the beauty of NZ. I have toured NZ from the tip of the far North to the tip of the South Island including the East and West coasts...absolutely stunning to say the least. We are so blessed with such a diversity of landscape all with a short driving or flying distance. You name the terrain...we have it...amazing!

| Hey Nicole - I spent 3 years tour guiding on the South Island's West Coast - down as far as Queenstown. There are a huge number of places right along the 'Coast where you can pitch a tent and just go and explore. Some of the old goldfields there are worth a look - and if you are into tramping, the Creosus Track between Blackball and Barrytown is a must!! It can be done in a day bust is best done with a night in the hut on the tops. Of course, there are the glaciers and Pancake Rocks, but some of the less visited places are really worth a look - for instance, Okarito is right in the middle of a Kiwi reserve - there are guys there that will tae you to see Kiwi in the wild - a rare thing, and the scenery is stunning. Well worth taking a couple of weeks to explore tha whole region |

Hi there, NZ is stuffed full of great, fantastic and unusual things to do. I've always liked the fact that all of these cool things are within a day or thees drive from each other making our country so easy to visit. How about the Butchery museum in Milton, or th whale fossils situated on a hill top close by!! Or the Elvis Presley Memorial record room in Taranaki.
For thousands of things to do check out WWW.DOSOMETHING.CO.NZ everything is added by locals so there are some real gems on there. Don't forget to add your favourites while your there!
Cheers. |

| My husband and I rode a motorbike down the west coast of Taranaki around the mountain then over the forgotten highway through Whangamomena (I am sure I have spelt that very wrong!!!!)and that was amazing. It is such rugged country truly like going back in time 200 years with the untouched vegetation. Before we left Hawera we went to the Tawhiti Museum which was very cool, and we spent the night in Whangamomena at teh pub which was one of the best holiday experiences we have ever had. HIGHLY recommended for loads of fun! |

| hi being an ex pat of nz living in canada i took my canadian boyfriend to the south island and showed him the scenery of the coastlines around the south island but kaiteriteri has to be the most amazing place of them all, golden sands and yes the warm hospitality of kiwis, not to over look larnach castle in dunedin, might i say we had a great holiday and some wonderful memories to take back to canada with us.one thing i miss about home is our picnics and get togethers over a barbie, and the closeness of travelling to places just to take in a breath taking site. |

Nicole, try the East Cape. Freedom camping and beautiful scenery. Start at Opotiki and work your way around to Gisborne.
Lake Waikaremoana is also worth a look. |

My first post on the travel threads
First, look around both islands. This is a geologically unstable country, but that's why it's so special.
There is nothing more Kiwi than having BBQ's at the riverside. |

Hey all,
I'm looking for all of those fantastic domestic destinations that are our own little best kept secrets.
I'm keen for camping, tramping, B&Bs - whatever really! Just whatever is special.
I'm still relatively new to NZ, been here two and a half years now. I adore getting out and really exploring. Heading to Kai Iwi lakes this w/end.
If you stumble across this thread put your two cents in! |
