ophiuchus: 'geologically unstable'- hilarious! Maybe a little shaky in political terms, but otherwise we haven't slid off the edge of the world yet.

Nicole, try the East Cape. Freedom camping and beautiful scenery. Start at Opotiki and work your way around to Gisborne.

Lake Waikaremoana is also worth a look.

The Picton/Nelson area great places to visit. South of Nelson is Lake Rotoiti [not to be mistaken for the one in the Nth Island]. Be getting cold there now but in the Summer months .......

Then head to the east coast and travel back up towards the top.
So much to see and do.suggest you put a month or two aside to complete

My first post on the travel threads

First, look around both islands. This is a geologically unstable country, but that's why it's so special.

There is nothing more Kiwi than having BBQ's at the riverside.

New Zealand Secrets! Reply to this message
Hey all,

I'm looking for all of those fantastic domestic destinations that are our own little best kept secrets.

I'm keen for camping, tramping, B&Bs - whatever really! Just whatever is special.

I'm still relatively new to NZ, been here two and a half years now. I adore getting out and really exploring. Heading to Kai Iwi lakes this w/end.

If you stumble across this thread put your two cents in!
